Mamelodi Sundowns DStv Diski Challenge coach Surprise Moriri says they are not losing any sleep after being dethroned at the top of the log last weekend by Stellenbosch FC.
Sundowns were thumped 2-0 by Stellies, who then moved to the top spot, dumping Sundowns to third place in the standings, but Moriri is not worried at all.
“This is a long race and the players also know that. We are still within our cycle despite losing the game last week, we are still on track,” nonchalant Moriri said.
“Right now, we are focusing on ourselves. If you focus on other people, you will lose the plot‚ you need to focus on yourself. “Being dethroned from No 1 to No 3 does not mean it is over. We have a plan and having the plan help us to see where we are going in terms of the short term and long term goals.
Moriri said last weekend that they did not play badly. They were unfortunate to be punished after making silly mistakes.
He explained: “We are on course, the team played well even last week, created chances but we conceded soft goals.”
Today, Sundowns will face Chippa United at Tsakane Stadium in Brakpan.
The kick-off is at 10:00 CAT.
Moriri said they will have a different lineup, as some players could not train this week while they focused on their studies.
He said: “If you can look at this week, we spent the week training with 11 players. This is the period where we prioritise. School is essential. We have to get the balance; not everyone in the squad will make it to the professional level; we must balance school and football.–Supersport.
