Charlie Nyce star finally shines

DANGAMVURA-born urban groover Charlie Nyce has finally seen his dream coming to fruition after he recently launched his debut album, Muera gumbo.

That the title-track Muera gumbo was composed more than five years ago, explains how determined and passionate the talented lad was in becoming a professional musician.

He longed for years to come up with a polished project that would carry songs that have different themes and messages that appeal more to the youths.

In an interview with The Weekender recently, Charlie Nyce, who staged a memorable show at Club Mandisa last weekend, said he felt he had enough arsenal to “fight” for his place in the urban groove genre that is dominated by giants Trevor Dongo, Nox, Taurai, Tererai and XQue, among others.

He believes his new project will propel him to dizzy heights as he commences on live shows across Mutare and beyond while marketing his new album.

Tracks on the 18-track album include Kana rudo rwapera, Kugara usipo, I believe, (Join hands and unite), Kuna mai chisamba, Ndinewe and other promotional songs.

He grew up in the sprawling suburb of Dangamvura before realising his dream just when his idol and godfather in the industry, Nox Guni, rose to fame with anthemic gems such as Maria and Ndinonyara.

“Nox’s music was my main inspiration. His voice, lyrics and song-writing skills are a marvel and I grew up listening to all of his songs. My music is inspired by him and I hope to make my music as influential. I wrote tracks such as Muera gumbo ages ago and I am happy that I managed to perfect it into a better song as it is now. I taking this music profession into another level now that my album is out,” he said.

He paid tribute to show promoters such as Bonface Nyamanhindi who are determined to take his music to greater heights.
