CHIPINGE District Administrator, Mr Edgars Seenza, has refuted claims by some organisations who masquerade as land developers that Checheche Growth Point has attained town status.
Mr Seenza said Government was still to award the growth point town status although plans are in the pipeline to transform it into a town.
“There are some unscrupulous land developers who are jumping Government protocols and misleading the public by spreading falsehoods that Checheche now has town status. I think there is deliberate misrepresentation of facts by them to lure more stand seekers to the growth point,” he said.
The Chipinge Rural District Council was on an expansion drive of the growth point recently, giving it a new look. It is the responsibility of the council to disburse residential stands to interested people. He castigated some land developers (name supplied) for misleading the public in the district by spreading falsehoods.
“We heard rumours that there are ground-breaking ceremonies being done at Checheche and this is not procedural. No Government office was advised on this issue. The Provincial Minister’s Office is not aware of this issue and we encourage all land developers to consult our offices first,” he added.
Meanwhile, Provincial World Habit Day celebrations were held at Checheche yesterday (Thursday).
