A MAKONI villager recently found himself before a community court, facing explosive allegations of engaging in an illicit affair with his neighbour’s pregnant wife —reportedly within the couple’s own matrimonial bedroom.
Taurai Mutandaware of Maparura Village was dragged to Chief Makoni’s community court by Mabura Muzanhenhamo, accusing him of dating his wife, Vongai.
He told the court that he found Vongai with a secret line she was using to communicate with Mutandaware.
Muzanhenhamo first reported the matter to Headman Maparura where Mutandaware reportedly admitted to the allegations, and was ordered to compensate him with six beats, but did not comply with the ruling.
“I caught my wife with a secret line which I was not aware of. I quizzed her, and she revealed that it was bought by Mutandaware for them to secretly communicate. She confessed that she was seeing Mutandaware behind my back. I approached Mutandaware, and he admitted dating my wife. I reported the matter to Headman Maparura, where Mutandaware pleaded guilty to adultery, and was fined six beasts,” said Mutandaware.
Mutandaware did not waste the court’s time and pleaded guilty to the allegations. “Yes, I bought her the line after she requested me to do so. I am admitting that I was having an affair with Vongai,” he said.
Vongai revealed in the court that she slept with Mutandaware several times in her matrimonial bedroom while she was pregnant.
“It is true the Mutandaware bought me the secret line. This is the line that we used to communicate. He would call me on the line known to my husband, and instructed me to insert the secret line so that we could have conversations. When my husband became aware of this, I disposed the line.
“We slept together with Mutandahwe multiple times. This began when I was pregnant. Muzanhenhamo is the one who impregnated me. We used to sleep in our matrimonial bedroom,” she said.
The court found Mutandaware guilty of adultery, and fined him one beast and four goats for the offence.
He was ordered to meet Muzanhenhamo’s US$100 cost of the lawsuit.
