A MAN from Tshabalala suburb in Bulawayo was arrested for stabbing his neighbour on the nose with an Okapi knife after being told to return a stolen cell phone.
The accused Webston Ndembere (20) stabbed Nobert Ncube on 12 January after he took him to Radi Lunga who resides in the same neighbourhood to return a cell phone Ndembere had stolen from Lunga.
Ndembere appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube and pleaded guilty to a charge of assault.
He was taken for community service assessment and has been remanded in custody as he awaits his judgment.
Ndembere was not charged with theft as the matter of the stolen phone was not reported to the police.
The prosecutor, Thembeni Mpofu, said some time this year on an unknown date, Ndembere stole a Samsung J1 cell phone from Ms Lunga.
“Ndembere stole a cell phone and when Ncube confronted him about the matter he agreed to have taken the phone.
He promised to return it in the company of Ncube.
“At around 11pm the two proceeded to Lunga’s house.
While they were at the gate Ndembere took out an Okapi knife intending to stab Ncube after they had a misunderstanding on why he wanted him to return the cell phone,” said Mpofu.
Ncube managed to dodge the knife and it tore his shirt.
While he was trying to hold Ndembere’s hand he stabbed him once on the nose and disappeared into the dark, the court heard.
Ncube reported the matter on the same night but did not seek medical attention for his injuries.
