The town of Chegutu successfully held its agricultural show from Thursday to Saturday last week after a 15-year hiatus.
The show was held at Pfupajena Stadium with over 10 exhibitors taking part.
It ran under the theme ‘Fostering Resilience Agricultural Value Chains to Drive Agro-Industrialisation’.
While the key focus was on the agricultural sector, the show also provided an opportunity to fight drug abuse.
A Chegutu-based youthful advocate for a drug-free society, Liberty Mavhunga said the event gave him a platform to fight drug abuse.
The district is battling drugs and substance abuse, with the scourge rife in both rural and urban areas.
Chegutu Agricultural Show Society chairman, Mr Kudakwashe Mutongerwa said the annual event had been on hold for a long time due to a number of challenges.
He said they decided to resume the show for the benefit of farmers.
“We saw it fit to revive this event as a way of honouring our farmers while at the same time injecting some life into the town.
“We are pleading with Chegutu Rural District Council and Chegutu Municipality to avail land so that we can host the event in a free and conducive environment.
“As the first event after a long time, we hosted it at Pfupajena Stadium but going forward we need a more permanent venue,” said Mr Mutongerwa.
The two councils promised to look into the show society’s request.
