Chegutu Independence Cup sports fiesta roars into life

for honours taking to the field.

The Chegutu East Independence Cup final will be held on April 18 at Musinami business centre where Information and Publicity Minister, Webster Shamhu, will be the guest of honour.
The Chegutu East constituency parliamentary information centre said they have decided to field two teams for Chambara and Toendepi districts.

“The constituency is made up of 14 districts which are fielding soccer and netball teams to compete in this year’s tournament.
“Some districts in the constituency are too big hence the decision to allow Charamba and Toendepi to field two teams each.
“The tournament is sponsored by the Member of the House of Assembly, Cde Webster Shamhu, who will be partnered by Badon Enterprises and Africa Consolidated Resources.

“The Independence Cup tournament for both soccer and netball begun in 2008 with 16 teams participating,” a press release stated.
Defending champions are Kaguvi who beat Chambara A in last year’s football final.
“Last year the cup was won by Kaguvi who beat Chambara in the final to pocket US$750 and a floating trophy.

“The runners-up were awarded US$500 and soccer balls for their efforts.
“Chigondo won the netball finals when they beat Charamba B to win US$750 and a trophy.
“The tournament is promising to be bigger and better as it has became popular in the constituency.

“This year’s tournament has a US$5 000 purse and some prizes like uniforms and balls,” the organisers said in a statement.

Mkwasi vs Kaguvi (Neuso grounds), Chikwangwadza vs Toendepi B (Shigwiri Primary), Chambara A vs Danangwe (Mbafa Primary), Nehanda vs Saruwe (S Chimbetu Primary), Murambe vs charamba B (Murambe Primary), Toendepi A vs Chingondo (Katawa Primary), Chirinhengo vs Mkwasha (Chirinhengo Primary), Dombwe vs Chiwanza (Dombwe Primary).
