Chegutu District Hospital will resume offering mortuary services next week following the renovation of its mortuary through a private-public-partnership with Nyaradzo Group.
The hospital closed the mortuary for renovations six months ago and has been relying on Kadoma Hospital and private funeral parlours.
The mortuary had not been functional for more than 10 months.
Chegutu district medical officer, Dr Tonderai Nhende, said the mortuary will be officially reopened next week.
“Renovation of the mortuary, which has a carrying capacity of 11 bodies is now complete and very soon it will be opened,” he said.
“Through the successful partnership between Nyaradzo and the hospital, we will be able to resume offering mortuary services to communities in Chegutu District.”
The nature of renovations have reduced the mortuary’s carrying capacity from 16 to 11 bodies, with space now assigned to a new cooling system, compartments and other features that make it state-of-the-art.
Dr Nhende could not give the cost of the renovation, since Nyaradzo paid the bills, and Nyaradzo founder Mr Philip Mataranyika was not available for comment.
