BULAWAYO based musician, Cheswa Kasomo has released his debut 10- track album titled The Conception/Life kaLova. Kasomo’s interest in music started from a young age, but it was in the year 2000 after he completed high school that he began to take singing seriously.
His family was however opposed to his involvement in music as it wanted him to concentrate on his studies.
In an interview, Cheswa Kasomo said he named the album Conception/Life KaLova because at some point in his life he experienced challenges as an unemployed youth.
Kasomo’s first studio experience was in 2006 when he recorded his first single which unfortunately did not do well on the local charts.
In 2008 he relocated to Zambia to study Information Technology.
In Zambia he recorded two singles, Lelo Chizalila and Blanket Yamanso which according to him propelled him to fame. The songs received fair airplay on both radio and television and Africa Unity TV is still showing his videos for both songs.
“Fans and fellow musicians loved my music when I was in Zambia. Artists would occasionally ask me to feature on their songs singing in Ndebele,” he said.
Kasomo said when he returned from Zambia in 2011, he could not record his music as he had no money.
“Fortunately my family has started appreciating my talent and they have helped me record this album. The album consists of songs done in Shona, Ndebele and English though sometime I add some Nyanja as well as Bemba,” he said.
