Chibi run M&H show again

Perennial campaigners Pamushana hogged the limelight for all the wrong reasons after complaints were lodged that they used three over-aged players.
Schools that played Pamushana in the group stages – Sakubva 1 High, Pakame High and semi-finalists Marondera High – claimed the players completed their O’ Levels at Mutare Boys High and Dewure High in 2009.
The players are Pius Ganda and Tapiwa Machaya, who were in Form Four at Mutare Boys in 2009, while Delight Ncube was also in Form Four at Dewure High the same year. It was further proved that Ganda is now playing in the Eastern Region Division One for Super Tigers.
Joseph Macheka, head in charge of soccer national, confirmed to The Herald that by end of the week they would have finished investigations and come up with a judgment.
Macheka added that players born on or after January 1 1995 were eligible to participate.
Masvingo province once again showed its dominance in junior football tournaments.
During the national finals last week at Mucheke, a total of 16 goals were scored in the group stage and a further 14 goals were pumped in the semi-final, third place play-offs and the final.
From the group stage to the final, no single player was shown a red card by referees.
This shows commendable discipline among the players.
Chibi High won the M&H schools soccer Under-16 tournament, having won it last year in Bindura at Hermann Gmeiner School.
In the past three years, schools soccer tournaments like Chigoyi, M&H and COPA Coca-Cola, have been won by Masvingo provincial schools like Pamushana, Dewure and Chibi High.
Meanwhile, sponsor Alex “Dr Mash” Mashamhanda hailed Nash for running the tournament professionally.
Mashamhanda described the relationship that exists between Nash and M&H as fruitful and said the money was being channelled towards the right purpose.
The sponsor promised to continue funding the tournament and indicated that next year he would double the sponsorship package.
“There is need to invest in the development of junior football to ensure continued success at regional and international level by junior national teams.
“I want to salute the soccer fans who descended on different venues during the district and provincial finals.
“I also pay tribute to Masvingo residents for rallying behind teams at the national finals,” added Mashamhanda.
