In a statement, NACZ Bulawayo Province programmes officer, William Nyandoro said so far six groups had qualified for the preliminary rounds.
“Registration of participating groups is under way and already six of the expected 10 groups for the competition have confirmed their participation.
“Four slots remain and music bands are encouraged to grab these for an opportunity that guarantees a recording contract for the national winners,” said Nyandoro.
He called upon aspiring artistes to register before the deadline lapses.
“We are calling upon aspiring artistes who have not yet recorded their compositions to come and register before 20 June.
“Groups are free to enter any type of music as long as the music is original and each group will perform at least three songs,” he said.
The provincial finals are set for 30 June at Manor Hotel.
The Chibuku Road to Fame is a talent search competition that was started in 2001 by the NACZ with sponsorship from Delta Beverages through the Chibuku brand.
It seeks to promote the development of music groups through identifying groups with potential to produce and record their music.
The competition also gives a platform for up-and-coming artistes to showcase their talent before a guaranteed large audience.
Ten bands will be at the Bulawayo provincial finals which will see the winner earning a ticket to join winners from other provinces at the national finals in Harare on 29 September.
The winners will pocket a prize of $1 000 while the second and third placed groups will take home $500 and $300 respectively.
Last year, Nyampi Stars won the ticket to represent the province at the national finals held in Harare. Nyandoro said entertainment at the provincial preliminaries would be provided by Ndolwane Super Sounds fronted by Charles Ndebele.
Regulations of the competition dictate that participation is restricted to groups that have met the requirements set by NACZ.
Participants must be up-and-coming musicians who have never recorded, and have band members that are between the ages of 18 and 35.
The maximum number of artistes per group is eight and the group must play live instruments including the drum and at least one guitar.
