THIS year’s edition of the Chibuku Road to Fame Manicaland provincial competitions are on tomorrow (Saturday) with 10 groups expected to compete. The potentially intriguing contest will be held at Neighbourhood Tavern in Dangamvura. Last year’s event which was held at Dangamvura Hotel stands as one of the finest ever since its inception after the well-deserved winners, Talent Falls went on to shrug off stiff competition and settled for second position at the national finals.
Neighbours’ Sons and Mutare Poly settled for second and third positions respectively.
In an interview on Tuesday, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Manicaland provincial manager, Jonah Muchayi, said although they were expecting 10 groups to take part, only three groups had so far confirmed participation.
“We are happy with the preparations and we are ready for yet another edition of the competition. The event will start at 10am. Mark Sounds, Echoes and Shining Stars are the only three groups that have so far confirmed participation and we are expecting the other groups to come aboard for registration before Friday (today),” he said.
Ragga Manyika outfit, Assegai Crew will perform as a guest group.
“We honour Assegai Crew to be one of the oldest performing groups. Their commitment to Chibuku Road to Fame is forever appreciated. They will perform at the event and entertain hundreds of people who are expected to grace the event,” he added.
The winners will walk away with $1 000 and first runners-up will pocket $500, while second runners-up will get $300.
Chibuku Road to Fame contest is run by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and Delta Beverages.
The contest remains one of the well-acclaimed events on the national arts calendar.
