CHICKEN Inn captain Xolani Ndlovu missed a last minute penalty as the hosts paid heavily for their below par performance in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter on Saturday afternoon.
A second half goal from Fredrick Muza was all visiting Telone needed to get all the maximum points.
Muza slotted home from close range after getting to the end of a brilliant pass from Blessing Sibanda.
The GameCocks had an opportunity to salvage a point from the game after they won a penalty late in the game but Chris Mverechena in goal for TelOne saved Ndlovu’s weak attempt.
The penalty was awarded after Telone midfielder Leo Hofisi appeared to have hacked down Elshamar Farasi inside the box.
In the end, Telone walked away with all the three points.
The game started at a slow pace with both teams struggling to create any meaningful chances early into the game.
Malvin Hwata beat two markers sent a weak shot toward goal which was easily dealt with by Mverechena on 27 minutes.
Nkosiyabo Masilela sent in an inviting cross from the left which was met by Frederick Muza inside the box who directed his header wide after 33 minutes of play.
Six minutes later, Miguel Feldman tried from a distance but his effort went wide of goal.
On the stroke of halftime, Farasi forced a brilliant save from Mverechena with a well taken shot from outside the box.
In the second half, the GameCocks came close to an equaliser with Malvin Hwata’s header from close range going wide off a Xolani Ndlovu cross from the left. Moments later, TelOne midfielder Nkosiyabo Masilela released a powerful shot from a distance which went over the the bar.
