Chicken Inn in talks with SA club on goalie transfer

Player agent Gibson Mahachi has given an update on Zimbabwean goalkeeper Donovan Bernard’s intended move to the lucrative PSL.

Bernard, who has been a consistent performer in Zimbabwe’s PSL, has been on the radar of Motsepe Foundation Championship side Kruger United.
At first, Betway Premiership sides SuperSport United and Polokwane City FC were believed to be angling to lure him.

But it appears they have given up as Kruger United emerge as front-runners for his signature.

The 29-year-old proved that he has something special to offer during the 2024 Zimbabwean season after keeping 20 clean sheets in 34 matches for Chicken Inn

Ultimately, he was voted as the Goalkeeper of the Season for being exceptional in goals for Chicken Inn FC in Zim’s elite league.

In an interview with FARPost, Bernard’s agent, Mahachi, gave an update on the goalie’s possible move to the PSL.

“Kruger United are also in contact with his current club, Chicken Inn FC, but nothing has yet to be agreed upon,” Mahachi told FARPost. “They are still interested, but right now, we are still handling the talks between all the parties involved.”

Chicken Inn are ready to cash in on Bernard, who has one year remaining on his contract. He is one of the few goalkeepers who have enjoyed game time at National Team level in Zimbabwe.

The steady goalie last featured for the Zimbabwe Warriors during the last round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He guarded goals when they lost 2-0 to Lesotho. However, he was benched when they were defeated 3-1 by Bafana Bafana.

In the past, Bernard had had links to the PSL. In 2022, he saw his move to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM] FC flop at the eleventh hour. The goalkeeper returned home after failing to agree terms with TTM, who wanted to put him on trial before signing.

Nevertheless, he remains hopeful that he will finally make a move to the lucrative PSL. (Farpost.co.za)
