Chicken lands man in soup

An attempt to make a quick buck during the Christmas holidays backfired for a Harare man after he was arrested for stealing and selling a chicken.

Delon Savhera (20) appeared before Mbare magistrate Mrs Isabel Nyoni who sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment and suspended the term on condition of good behaviour.

Ms Tekla Dube and Mr Josphat Gono were selling chickens at the market on December 27, 2017. Ms Dube left her stall briefly and Savhera, who was lurking in the area, pounced and made off with one US$7 bird. He then sold the chicken to a passer-by for US$3.

Mr Gono, who had been observing from a distance, later blew the whistle, leading to Savhera’s arrest.

Mrs Revai Mudozori prosecuted.
