music. Of late, there have been some new releases and below are reviews of the new CDs on the market.
Chiedza Chevatendi — Simba RaJesu
The renowned apostolic accappella gospel music outfit Chiedza Chevatendi are back to their usual ways with a matrix-loaded 11-track album titled “Simba RaJesu”.
Famed for their debut 2004 offering “Ivhu Kuvhu”, which saw them releasing a string of other hit albums along the way, the group has never looked back.
If you have listened to their music before, then you know what this group is capable of and it is not a fluke that they now boast over 10 albums to their name.
The voices are still as powerful as ever and the only difference this time around is the depth of the messages carried in their songs.
The album kicks off with the track “Bvumai Kutumwa”, which advises people of their role on earth in spreading God’s word.
“Simba RaJesu” goes a step further in talking about the power that God invested in Jesus Christ in saving the world from the wily ways of the devil, while “Ishe Vanokudai” is a reminder to those who doubt in God, about the abundant power He possesses.
How the world has been transformed into the modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah makes up the gist of the track “Sodoma NeGomora”.
The group goes further in saying that whoever lives according to the ways of that place of sin will be doomed for eternal gnashing of teeth in hell, as the song “Dziva Renahmo” testifies.
Corner Studios is marketing and distributing the album.
Lewis Ngara — “Jesus Is Calling”
United Kingdom-based gospel musician Lewis Ngara is keeping Zimbabwe’s flag high with his mellow vibes and the artiste has maintained this form with his latest album called “Jesus Is Calling”.
Those who remember another Zimbabwean gospel musician based in the Diaspora, Letwin Berebende, will recall how closely Ngara worked with the diva and it is welcome news to learn that the artiste has not in any way hung up his microphone.
Rather, he is going strong, and one needs to listen to his latest project to appreciate this.
A big plus about the eight-track album is that it was produced by Cecil Zinyuku, who has worked and toured with internationally renowned artistes Boyzone and Peter Andre, thus bringing on this album a a vast wealth of experience.
“We Found The Way”, the opening track on the album, is clear in the way that it announces to the world that by having Jesus Christ, people have found the light of their life.
This message is further strengthened in the song, “Handichatamba NaSatani”, in which a born-again Christian disowns Satan or any association with him.
Ngara does not waver from his line of call by telling people that “Jesus Calling” in a song of the same title, while “Keep Me Strong Lord” is an appeal to God to strengthen someone in the face of challenges from the devil.
The album is being marketed and distributed by Corner Studios in Zimbabwe.
Casper Gomwe — “Imba Yacho”
If you are one fan of museve or hard-core sungura with an experimental beat, then this six-track album is for you.
Despite being new to the music scene, the guys who ply their trade by the name Museyamwa Hit Challengers seem to have an impressive talent of blending their catchy and infectious sungura rhythms with topical issues bordering on love, domestic and social issues.
The opening track “Imba Yacho” is a bold reminder that a blissful home is made up of mutuality.
“Zvausina Phone” laments breakdown in communication between lovers, one of whom does not own a mobile phone.
“Mudiwa” is a love song, while “Yeuka” reminds people to remember where they came from.
“Muzukuru Dhekwe” is also part of the line-up.
The album is another Corner Studios product.
