CHIEF Hwenje tenth album, titled ‘Commander-In-Chief’, will see the musician giving his fans a glimpse of the challenges he faced when he was battling ill health.

The six-track project reflects on life experiences, social realities and personal triumph.

The album, set to be released today, marks a significant milestone in the artist’s career, highlighting both his musical growth, and resilience, following a period in which he battled ill health.

Chief Hwenje said the album draws heavily from real-life experiences and the lessons he learnt during a challenging period in his life.

“The album speaks about life in general and what I have learnt during the time I was not feeling well,” he said.

“It speaks about people who use dark magic against others.

“It mainly speaks on the social life of people and those celebrating their achievements, so it is a mixture of real life events and happiness.”

‘Commander-In-Chief’ carries six tracks that blend storytelling with celebratory themes. The songs on the album are ‘Tipembere’, ‘Rambawakanyarara’, ‘Macoolayo’, ‘Atipedza’, ‘Mudiwa Wangu’, and ‘Ndirindega’.

Two of the tracks feature collaborations with fellow musicians. On ‘Atipedza’, Chief Hwenje teams up with gospel musician Obert Chari, while ‘Mudiwa Wangu’ features Zimdancehall artist Kinnah, popularly known as Mr Mbare.

The collaborations are expected to add variety to the album by bringing together different musical styles and audiences.

Chief Hwenje said the project was inspired by the everyday realities faced by many people in society — from jealousy and spiritual battles to moments of joy and celebration.

Through the album, he hopes listeners will reflect on life’s ups and downs while finding strength and encouragement in his music.

Over the years, Chief Hwenje has built a loyal following with his distinctive sound and relatable lyrics that often tackle social issues affecting communities.

The release of ‘Commander-In-Chief’ is expected to further cement his place in Zimbabwe’s music industry, especially among fans who appreciate music that blends entertainment with meaningful messages.

With ten albums now under his belt, Chief Hwenje continues to demonstrate his staying power on the local music scene, using his music to reflect on society while inspiring listeners through both struggle and success.
