SOUTHERN Region Division One League champions Bulawayo Chiefs and Talen Vision will clash in the final of the Trukumb Mining Enterprises sponsored Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Cup on Saturday after winning their respective semi-finals at Hartsfield yesterday.
Chiefs clobbered Matabeleland North Under-20 select 4-1, courtesy of a brace by Arthur Musiiwa and goals apiece from Perfect Chikwende and skipper Kundishora Chakanyuka. The Matabeleland North select got their consolation goal from Nkosi Ncube.
With a bit of luck and precision, Chiefs could have won by a wider margin, but after getting three first half goals, they took their foot off the pedal, with their players taking turns to miss.
The visitors should be commended for their fighting spirit as they stuck to their passing game even when it looked over for them.
“The youngsters gave us a good run. I’m happy we’re through to the final and we’re looking forward to a great game against Talen Vision,” said Thulani Sibanda, Bulawayo Chiefs coach.
Talen Vision beat Bulawayo Under-20 select 3-0 in the second match of the day.
It took just seven minutes for Talen Vision to open the score sheet when what seemingly appeared to be a harmless header inside the box by Brendon Moyo was completely misjudged by Bulawayo Province Select goalkeeper Deron Chuma and trickled in the net.
Chuma hurt himself in the process by hitting his head against the upright in an attempt to make a last ditch save.
Emberson Tshuma doubled the lead for Talen Vision in the 64th minute after connecting a well taken cross by teammate Velile Sibanda to slot home past Chuma.
With less than five minutes before the referee signalled the end of the game, Adonice Nyoni added his name on the score sheet to kill the match as a contest.
The final will be played at Luveve Stadium on Saturday.
Winners of the competition will take home $2 400 with the runners-up getting $1 500.
