Chigodora lifts Chairman’s trophy

CHIGODORA-BASED Beer Gardens Pool Club are this year’s Mutare Pool League Chairman’s Tournament champions after outplaying 19 other teams in an exciting pool contest held at Golden Peacock Hotel last week on Saturday.

After settling for second position in the previous inter-club competition, Beer Gardens finally struck the right chord and left competitors green with envy after walking away with the coveted Chairman’s Tournament title.

Star-studded, Snipers Pool Club settled for second position, while Mutare Pool League 2022 champions, Rozvie Pool Club were shoved to third position.

Soul City Pool Club was fourth.

Formed in 2015 as a leisure activity for youths in the peri-urban community, Beer Gardens Pool Club came to this year’s edition of the Chairman’s Tournament powered by star players, Tatenda Chikara, Tafadzwa Matimbire, Robson Nzarayebani, Tawanda Muriri, Gailence Machakache, Nyasha Mutepfa, Learnmore Takaerwa among others and backed by club patrons, Arnold Gombakomba and Frank Marembo.

 

They were just too hot to handle for their opponents.

Gombakoma said: “We are thrilled to have won this competition. It has been our wish to showcase the talent among youths in the peri-urban community of Chigodora and we are happy that they are matching the standards of their counterparts in urban areas.”

Trinity Mukwapati, the Mutare Pool League executive member in charge of development and publicity, commended the 20 teams that partook in the annual tournament for the high level of competition and determination during the event.

“As a league, we are excited that we were able to successfully host this tournament. We congratulate the winners, Beer Gardens and we strongly hope that their performance will also inspire other teams to emulate them in future tournaments,” said Mkwapati.

The annual end of Mutare Pool League Season tournament for 2022 was the first edition after the Covid-19 lengthy layoff.

Rozvi Pool Club, who are the 2022 Mutare Pool League champions after they set the pace for the greater of the season ahead of second placed, Villa Spot won the previous edition of the Chairman’s tournament which was held before the Covid-19 pandemic left all sporting activities on ice.
