Chigumba cry foul

members of Zanoremba Housing Co-operative in Chitungwiza accusing them of trying to hijack its project.
The holding firm claims it started a housing project called Zanoremba Housing Project in 2004 in which home-seekers would pay subscriptions to the firm and later get finished houses.
The firm’s rivals were part of the project’s subscribers who later broke away after failing to pay in full and formed a co-operative with a name related to that of the holding firm. In an affidavit forming part of the application, Chigumba Holdings’ chairman, Christopher Chigumba, said the co-operative deployed “rogue youths” that unleashed terror and disturbed construction on the land.
“On August 4, 2011, the respondent co-operative dispatched rogue youths onto applicant’s housing project in which they unleashed terror on applicant’s employees demanding that they stop all construction activities within the applicant’s project.
“In fact the elements are forceful and violent in their conduct. The respondent’s behaviour is causing great financial prejudice to the applicant and depriving beneficiaries of the scheme who are awaiting completion of their houses,” he said. Under the project that started in 2004, home-seekers would pay monthly subscriptions to the company and the firms would build the houses. – CR.
