Chihuri hails SARPCCO Games

POLICE Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri yesterday challenged the force’s sporting team to start preparations for the next edition of the Southern Africa Regional Police Chiefs’ Cooperation Organisation Games. The next edition of the SARPCCO Games will be held in 2017. “I urge you now to start preparations for the next edition of the SARPCCO games because in two years time the Games are coming back,” said Chihuri, whose men and women triumphed in Swaziland.

“We want to maintain the record and continue flying the country’s flag high.”

He was speaking at a reception to toast the victory by more than 200 officers who recently participated during the ninth edition of the Games in Swaziland.

“I am indeed humbled and grateful to note that, in the battle for supremacy with 13 other SARPCCO member countries, our Zimbabwean team once again demonstrated an exceptionally high degree of sporting excellence as they retained the coveted SARPCCO trophy for the fourth time in a roll,” he said.

“On its journey to a resounding victory, the ZRP team accumulated a total of 56 medals, 14 of which were gold, while 29 were silver and 14 were bronze.

“Such a remarkable performance is eloquent testimony that they were true ambassadors, not only of the organisation, but also of our great nation, Zimbabwe,” Chihuri said. Police Deputy Commissioner-Geneneral (human resources) Levie Sibanda hailed the sponsors who supported the team.

“Indeed, their immense contribution and unparalleled benevolence was undoubtedly pivotal to the team’s morale and ultimate success during the ninth edition SARPCCO games glory,” he said.

Head of the Zimbabwe delegation, Mekia Tanyanyiwa, saluted Chihuri and senior officers for the support their gave to the team. “Zimbabwe is now a force to reckon with. The unwavering support and inspiration you have rendered to the Zimbabwe Republic Police sports team, commencing with the preparations, departure, and thus far is not only remarkable but highly motivational and commendable,” he said.
