Police Commissioner-General, Augustine Chihuri has urged the private sector to form sound partnerships with the police to eradicate crime.
Speaking at a handover ceremony of a vehicle donated by Quest Motor Corporation towards the Victim Friendly Unit of the police, Comm-Gen Chihuri said the police required assistance from other partners when fighting crime.
The Tiggo Chery vehicle would be used by the victim friendly unit in Manicaland.
“I wish to thank Quest Motor Corporation for demonstrating that the fight against crime is not a lone battle for the police but a collective effort. It is remarkably imperative for the police and the corporate community to continuously strengthen and nurture symbiotic relations in various policing endevours.
“I urge other members of the corporate community to emulate this noble gesture by Quest Motor Corporation by forming sound partnerships with the police in eradicating crime in society,” he said.
Comm-Gen Chihuri said the Victim Friendly Unit played a pivotal role in the fight against domestic violence, sexual abuse, child abuse, rape and other violations perpetrated against the vulnerable members of the society especially women and children.
“Therefore the ZRP in partnership with other key stakeholders particularly the Judiciary, National Prosecuting Authority, non-governmental organisations and other bodies need to be able to manage and ensure all cases get the best attention they really deserve,” he said.
Quest Motor Corporation Director, Mr Tarik Adam said the company was willing to work with the police in its activities.
He said Quest motors had several upcoming projects that will see the company employing many people.
“We are about to receive the first batch of the 65 seater intercity buses. This will be the first locally assembled Chinese buses in the country. We have several other projects that will see Quest Manufacturing employing a further 100 people in the next few months,” he said.
“With support from Government, public institutions and the general public we will put the local industry and in line with ZimAsset we aim to employ more and more people as this programme gains momentum,” he said.
