HIGHLANDERS’ rising star Mafios Chihweta is reportedly inching closer to a sensational move to ambitious Premier Soccer League side Scottland FC.
Sources close to the deal say both clubs agreed to terms last week, with only personal terms left to be finalised between Scottland and the striker.
Although both Highlanders and Scottland officials remained tight-lipped on Monday morning, the transfer is said to be all but done.
Chihweta, however, is reportedly keen to stay at Highlanders a bit longer to continue his development. The 19-year-old has netted three times for Bosso this season and has become a fan favourite with his pace, flair, and eye for goal.
He joined Bosso from Ajax Hotspurs in the Zifa Southern Region Division One earlier this year and hit the ground running.
Ironically, both Highlanders and Scottland are backed by BetterBrands, owned by flamboyant businessman Scott Sakupwanya.
This has led to frequent player movement between the two sides, with Scottland having already snapped up several former Bosso players, including Lynoth Chikuhwa, Peter Muduhwa, Marvelous Chigumira, and Godfrey Makaruse.
Chikuhwa has since been loaned to Chicken Inn, while Makaruse, who was not registered for the topflight season, was released to Bulawayo Chiefs.
The latest move for Chihweta may spark fresh debate among Bosso supporters, many of whom have accused Scottland of cherry-picking their best talent while the team struggles to find consistent form.
Scottland are also reportedly circling Bosso midfielder Mason Mushore in what appears to be a continued raid on Highlanders’ promising talent.
As the transfer window winds down, all eyes will be on whether Chihweta packs his boots for Scottland — or decides to fight on in the black and white.
