A 68-YEAR-OLD Chikanga man, Harry Peter Mangani, will have to answer to charges of allegedly raping his 28-year-old niece in 2016, Mutare regional magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiwundura has ruled.
Mangani, who pleaded not guilty, appeared before Mrs Chiwundura at the Mutare Magistrates’ Court. The magistrate dismissed his defence’s application for discharge at the close of the State’s case, stating that sufficient evidence had been presented for him to be put on his defence. The matter has been set down for continuation on April 15.
The court heard that Mangani is married to the complainant’s aunt.
Representing the State, Mr George Nyatsuro, told the court that sometime in June 2016, on a date the complainant could not recall, Mangani allegedly entered her unlocked bedroom while she was asleep and raped her once.
