AN elderly Sakubva widow had to seek the intervention of the courts to stop her son from tormenting her.
Gogo Thanks Muchena described her son, Moffat as an inconsiderate and disrespectful drunkard when they recently appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato, as she applied for a peace order.
Gogo Muchena said her son is in the habit of harassing and insulting her whenever he gets drunk.
“My son insults me using vulgar language and accuses me of witchcraft. He chases me from my matrimonial home so that he can be the sole occupant.
“He was born in 1978 and is fully grown up to be his own man. He should not be allowed to continue residing at my house.
“The last time we appeared in court on the same matter he pleaded for forgiveness. As a caring mother, I opted to give him a second chance.
“He has since reverted to his wayward behaviour. I am now having serious health complications because of my son’s uncouthness.
“He is unemployed and single but he can take care of himself,” said Gogo Muchena.
In response, Moffat blamed alcohol for his actions.
“I drink undiluted Teku-Teku. This has caused all the problems haunting me. I will stop drinking and look for a church to join, maybe it will help me.
“I need to seriously change my attitude towards my mother,” said Moffat.
In his ruling, Mr Chipato granted the peace order in Gogo Muchena’s favour.
He said Moffat has no right to evict his mother from her Sakubva house, adding that he should be grateful that she is still taking care of him at the age of 43.
Mr Chipato also told Moffat that if he breaches the peace order, he risks serving time at the Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services.
