Child looks nothing like me, man accuses wife of deceit

Mpumelelo Nyoni Court Reporter
A MARRIED father of two yesterday disowned his nine-month old son saying his estranged lover fell pregnant while in Botswana where she had gone shopping.Angela Musunganyoka dragged Lizule Moyo, a kombi driver, to the maintenance court demanding $150 per month for the upkeep of their two minor children.

Moyo told magistrate Takunda Mtetwa that Musunganyoka fled their home to live with her parents and came back pregnant with their “disputed” second child.

“Angela is a cross-border trader and she often goes to Botswana. While she was there last year she asked me to send her family planning pills but I refused. When she came back she never came home but instead ran away to live with her parents,” said Moyo.

“Three months later I went to her parents’ house only to find out that she was pregnant. Why was she hiding the pregnancy? In any case, the child looks nothing like me your worship.”

The couple has two children aged five and nine months.

Musunganyoka hit back and accused Moyo of trying to avoid his responsibilities as a father.

“He has not been paying school fees for our first born child. He is just trying to run away from his duties but he knows both the children are his. He can afford to pay maintenance as he earns about $300 as a kombi driver and a part-time mechanic,” she said.

Magistrate Mtetwa ordered Moyo to pay $70 from the end of July.
