adminTHE 14th edition of the Chimanimani Arts Festival roars into life early next month with an array of musicians and artistes from Mutare, Chimanimani, Chipinge and Harare expected to headline the annual edition.
The festival is aimed at bringing together people from different corners of Chimanimani District, the nation and the world to experience the unity of purpose that prevails at its events in the scenic environment of the tourist village.
It also promotes and develops amateur performers through interaction with seasoned local and international performers.
It will be running from August 8 to 10 under the theme: “Together we can”.
In a statement, Chimanimani Arts festival director Chido Musasiwa-Gutu invited all corporate and individual sponsors to come aboard with donations to make the event a resounding success. She said Deputy Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Supa Mandiwanzira was expected to grace the event as the guest of honour.
From the proposed budget, the festival needs about $60 000.
“We are extending a begging bowl to corporate and individual sponsors in Mutare to assist in any possible way to make the festival a success. We need support from Manicaland Province. We will be launching the festival on July 22 at Selous Hotel in Harare,” she said.
The official opening will be held at Chimanimani Hotel on August 8 (Friday).
On the same day and night, only traditional groups among them Vibe Culture, Mazwi Mbira Crew, Batanai Unite Marimba Ensemble, Chivaraidze and Garawiro will perform.
A workshop on Script Writing, Filming and Theatre will also be conducted.
August 9 (Saturday) will see superstar Oliver Mtukudzi, Sniper Storm, Tsitsi, BaShupi & The Eastern Gospel, Aleck Muchayi & Ngangu Band, Daniel Mirisi and The Lion of Judah, Joshua Sako and the Radiation, Shorai Chipungurana and Orchestra Warura Band, Andy Mushy, Memo and the Antiques, Assegai Crew, Tariro NeGitare, Jam Signal, Junior Bantan and House of Stone and DJ Irie Lion showcasing their antics.
The comical Sabhuku Vharazipi will also feature at the festival as well theatrical works and films such as Nyaminyami Amajiabulozi, I want a Wedding Dress, Peretera Maneta — Spell My Name, Sharing Day, Kare Kare Zvako Mothers Day, Elelwani, Chipawo, Njube High School (Let Them), Giant Puppets, Chipawo, Let Them Trust – Njube High School from Bulawayo in the theatre, film (Women Film makers of Zimbabwe).
