Young Igwe to wow Mutare fans

AFTER just a single weekend of rest, Mutare fun lovers will return to popular entertainment joint Pick and Save Supperrette tomorrow (Saturday) for yet another potential thriller and date with Peter Moyo and Utakataka Express.

Leonard Zhakata, Two Keys, Alick Macheso and Soul Jah Love consecutively performed at the venue for the past weekends save for last weekend when shop proprietor Isau Mupfumi gave patrons enough time to take pleasure in the last matches of the World cup finals.

Tomorrow, it’s all systems go and business as usual as Peter, adoringly referred to as Young Igwe, returns to the border city where he last performed several months ago.

Show organisers said more intriguing shows were in store for Mutare pleasure seekers.

They added that there would be a Simon Chimbetu 9th Anniversary commemorations concert on August 8 where Suluman Chimbetu, Somandla “Mafia” Ndebele and Jacob “Munotidako” Moyana will cross swords for supremacy.

Peter Moyo and the entire Utakataka Express band is now a rejuvenated side that can match any other top musical group in the country. Spenser Khumulani and Guyson Sixpence’s presence is a major boost for the band that was teetering on the brink of collapse last year.

Young Igwe is expected to belt out his father Tongai’s yesteryear hits that catapulted him to fame. These include Zvinoita Murudo, Samanyemba, Nemumvura mese, Muchina muhombe and Ndiro yababa, among other songs. He is also expected to churn out his own songs such as Mushonga mukuru and Barika.
