PREPARATIONS for the 45th Independence Day provincial celebrations in Chimanimani District have gained momentum with the activation of all State functions sub-committees.

Adding to that, the Clean-up Campaign for the month of April was held at Nhedziwa Business Centre last Friday as a way of raising awareness about the important event.

This year’s Independence Day celebrations will be running under the theme: “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030”.

In an interview, acting Chimanimani District Development Coordinator, Mr Elisha Mushayavanhu said the district is happy to host the momentous event.

“The whole community and district has scaled-up the preparations, and we are working round the clock to make the provincial independence celebrations a memorable event. Preparations are at an advanced stage, and as a district, we have held several meetings together with the provincial organising committee,” said Mr Mushayavanhu.

He revealed that all the State functions sub-committees have put their hands on the deck to ensure that all the necessary financial and material resources are in place ahead of the big day.

“It is pleasing to note that we are getting the full support from the provincial organising committee, and so far we have held several meetings where we were aligned and guided in terms of the preparatory works.

“As it stands, it is all systems go. The fundraising committee is working on raising the required financial resources for the event, and we have all put our hands on the deck to ensure that the event becomes another unique and memorable one,” said Mr Mushayavanhu.

He also revealed that a number of activities are currently being implemented as part of the broader strategies to create awareness across the length and breadth of Chimanimani District.

“We have designed a number of activities to ensure that we do not leave anyone and any place behind in celebrating the 45th Independence Anniversary, including engagement with the traditional leaders. Our thrust is that information should further cascades down to ward and cell levels,” said Mr Mushayavanhu.

He revealed that the district has great expectations that the provincial independence celebrations will leave a lot of development and infrastructure transformation, with a borehole already having been drilled at the celebrations venue.

“We expect different sectors of the economy to boom during the weeks leading to the provincial celebrations, including our tourism industry. We expect a lot of infrastructure development, ranging from road network maintenance to drilling of new boreholes.

“Indeed, the district is so much excited because we shall be hosting the entire province. This is in fulfilment of the Presidential mantra of leaving no place and no one behind. We shall all come together at one place as a province, and all the 23 administrative wards in Chimanimani are eagerly awaiting to receive the delegates,” said Mr Mushayavanhu.

He added: “The event promotes peace in the country, and this is in line with the whole of Government approach which brings everybody on board. We have the mass mobilisation and transport sub-committee working round the clock to ensure that every ward is allocated transport to ferry delegates to the venue.”

ZANU PF Chimanimani District Coordination Committee chairman, Cde Brighton Muchuwa, said the party welcomes the decision, and feel honoured to be accorded the chance to host the provincial commemorations.

“We have embarked on massive mobilisation strategy as a party to ensure that we reflect the orderly and discipline associated with Chimanimani District. We will not fail. This is our chance to show the world our prowess in organising big events. We have 32 party districts in Chimanimani, and we have put in place mechanisms to ensure that everything is in place for the big day,” said Cde Muchuwa.

He called upon Zimbabweans to remain united in defending the gains of the liberation struggle and forge one common goal of unity, peace and tranquillity.

“Unity is a symbol of a great nation. We urge all Zimbabweans to unite and forge one common goal of advancing the gains of the liberation struggle which ushered our independence. It is a time also to reminisce, and take people down the memory lane, reminding both the young and old of the brutal road to independence which came through the barrel of the gun. We should defend the hard won independence, and forge ahead with our thrust of economic development in fulfilment of Government’s Vision 2030 of an upper middle class economy,” he said.
