DISASTER preparedness mechanisms put in place in Chimanimani District that include the provision of 86 evacuation centres have seen residents in urban parts of the resort area and villagers in the remote parts of the district remaining calm since Tropical Depression Ana made a landfall early this week.

While memories of the devastating Cyclone Idai are still vivid in the minds of many, there has not been major destruction of infrastructure this time around in Chimanimani District, apart from the three households whose cabins were destroyed.

“People are not in panic mode at all. We are communicating with them through available platforms. We have managed to put in place disaster preparedness mechanisms that include 86 evacuation centres in case the need arises.

“There were no significant damages recorded so far. We have two households who had their cabins destroyed, in Ward 15 and one household in Ward 13 of Machongwe area. I am still to get a report from the assessment team that went there yesterday,” said Chimanimani District Coordinator, Mr Joseph Manyurapasi.
