IN an effort to improve communal hygiene and promote healthy lifestyles, villagers in Ward 22 of Mpudzi are set to benefit from the construction of more ablution facilities in the area.
This follows the training of at least 21 community builders who will be involved in the projects.
A development partner, Mercy Corps, is spearheading the initiative.
Ward 22 councillor, Councillor Kumbirai Kanyikwanaka, commended the move as progressive and said it will go a long way in enhancing hygiene standards in the communities.
“This project took off last year where each village received a demonstration toilet and more are set to be constructed this year as 21 builders have already received training to help speed up the process. We want to achieve zero open defection and improve communal hygiene.
“We would like to thank the Government through Mutare Rural District Council for their efforts in promoting healthy lifestyles that has seen Mercy Corps come on board,” said Cllr Kanyikwanaka.
He said universal and sustainable sanitation is a key public health issue crucial to human health and well-being.
