BRIGHTON Chimene, Zimbabwe’s golden boy of refereeing, is soaring to new heights after officiating in the AFCON Under-17 Final on Easter Saturday, where Morocco edged Mali 4-2 on penalties.
The Reigning Referee of the Year was appointed as the fourth official for the high-stakes clash, joining a continental dream team that included Namibia’s Andinio Twanyanyuka (centre referee), Kenya’s Salim Asao (first assistant), and Zambia’s Nancy Kasitu (second assistant).
This comes hot on the heels of Chimene’s promotion to FIFA Elite B class earlier this year – a massive step up that cements his place among Africa’s top whistle-blowers.
“From local stadiums to continental finals – Chimene’s rise is no fluke,” said one ZIFA official. “He’s earned every call he makes.”
Keep your eyes on the man with the whistle – he’s calling the shots, and the world is watching.
When talent meets discipline, the sky isn’t the limit – it’s just the beginning.
