MUNESU Chimhini and Gia Raad were crowned the 2026 First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Golf champions at Borrowdale Brooke on Sunday.

The Chapman Golf Club-based Chimhini becomes the first Zimbabwean to win the tournament in its five years of running.

Chimhini was outstanding as he carded 11-under-par to leave behind runner-up Syan Ramchader by six shots.

Chimhini etched his name into the history books after becoming the first Zimbabwean to win the boys’ title. Since the inaugural edition in 2022, South African junior golfers had won every boys’ title, making Chimhini’s triumph a landmark moment for Zimbabwean golf.

Heading into the final round with a one-shot lead, Chimhini showed remarkable composure under pressure.

“I am glad I played decent golf and was the first Zimbabwean to win the tournament with 11 under par and with a six-shot lead.

“I have been doing well in previous events . . . what is driving me is less than one percent of the elite young golfers will make it to the very top.

“So, I know I have to outwork my competition. This is my motivation to keep working hard and to compete in age groups way ahead of my age and in amateur events,” said Chimhini.

The top-ranked player on the local order of merit may miss the FBC Zimbabwe Open as it is coinciding with Region 5 Amateur Tournament to be played in Swaziland.

“The amateur events are a little challenging because I don’t like the poor course conditions of a good number of the country’s courses where most of the events are played in Zimbabwe.

“I am happy I am currently ranked as the number one on the local order of merit, and I look forward to entering amateur events in SA where there are stronger fields and better course conditions closer to what one will most likely encounter at a professional level.

“I don’t know yet which of the two tournaments I will play, but I am preparing for either.
