A Chinese delegation from Shanxi Province is in the country to consolidate bilateral relations in the area of tourism.
The largest part of the major heritage sites in China are found in Shanxi Province and have gone international through various online platforms that facilitate the marketing of the tourism hub.

The Chinese delegation, which is being led by the deputy director of Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism Mr Zhang Zhiren met Zimbabwe Tourism officials led by the acting chief executive officer Mr William Stima on Thursday.

Speaking after the meeting Mr Zhiren said they are in the country to forge synergies in various areas, mostly in the tourism sector.

He said they are exploring opportunities in a non-zero-sum game situation which encourages all parties to benefit.

“We are here in Zimbabwe to develop synergies for cooperation on tourism and cultural exchange as well as exploring opportunities in other areas,” said Mr Zhang.

“We are now migrating from the mining dimension to green tourism in line with the current trends. We want all parties to benefit in a win-win situation with our Zimbabwean counterparts.”

Mr Zhang also acknowledged the beauty of Zimbabwe as an ideal tourism destination with vast tourism resources as well as cultural and heritage sites.

“Zimbabwe is endowed with flora and fauna which makes it the richest in tourism. We are here to share notes on human capital development in the area of tourism. Going back to our country, we shall put Zimbabwe in the spotlight that it is the best tourism destination in Africa or the entire world,” said Mr Zhang.

Mr Zhang proposed direct flights linking Harare and Shanxi to reinforce existing ties.

Mr Stima expressed satisfaction with the direction the country was taking towards revamping the tourism sector.
