Renowned Chinese businessman, Beifa Group chairman Mr Qiu Zhiming is in Zimbabwe to look at investment opportunities under the 17 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) that were recently signed between China and Zimbabwe during the FOCAC Summit.
The Beifa Group is a leading enterprise in China’s stationery manufacturing industry, and has a large footprint globally.
President Mnangagwa recently met his Chinese counterpart President Xi Jinping during the FOCAC Summit in Beijing and the two leaders witnessed the signing of 17 bilateral agreements between Zimbabwe and China, including an MoU that seeks to enhance the implementation of high-impact projects.
Mr Zhiming, who has been in business for more than 30 years, highlighted that he is exploring opportunities in Zimbabwe to invest in stationery, adding that his visit to Zimbabwe is in response to the recently signed agreements.
“I was charmed by the agreements that were signed during the recent FOCAC Summit. Zimbabwe is a peaceful country and I find it very safe to extend my investments to Zimbabwe.
“For more than two decades, Beifa’s writing tools production and sales have surpassed 1,7 billion units, ranking first in Asia and third globally. It is the only company in history to hold three qualifications – exclusive supplier, licensed operator, and licensed retailer of Olympic stationery,” said Mr Zhiming.
He said doing business in Zimbabwe is going to create employment and reduce the prices of stationery.
“I am quite confident that the setting up of this manufacturing company will augment the supply chain and also reduce the prices of stationery. It is going to be a huge entity that is going to create employment in the country.”
Mr Zhiming said he would want to come back to Zimbabwe with other renowned business people to explore opportunities in various areas and meet local captains of industry as part of capacity building.
“I am expecting to come back before year-end or early next year with my colleagues who will explore opportunities in various sectors, including agriculture, industrial parks, and infrastructure development,” said Mr Zhiming.
“We shall also mingle with other local captains of industry for cross-pollination of ideas as part of capacity building.”
