Chinese national up for drugs

A Chinese national yesterday appeared in court after he was caught in possession of cocaine with an estimated street value of $60. Xu Yazhou (28) was charged with contravening Chapter 14 of the Dangerous Drugs Act when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe. He is out on $100 bailHe was remanded to September 22. As part of his bail conditions Xu was ordered to surrender his passport to the Clerk of Court, not to interfere with State witnesses and to report once every Monday at CID Drugs Section.

The State led by Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleges that on July 12 this year at around 15:15 hours Xu was approached at his place of residence by police detectives.

The court heard that a body search was conducted by one of the detectives and he found Xu in possession of two plastic sachets containing a whitish powder suspected to be cocaine

It is alleged that Xu was taken to the Border Control and Minerals Unit who then referred him to CID Drugs and Narcotics.

The court heard that the white substance was tested at CID Drugs Harare and was proved to be cocaine.
