LIKE wine that matures with age, Edward Sadomba’s years of experience appears to be coming in handy for Sudanese giants Al Hilal with the Zimbabwean international’s goals helping them to stretch their lead over bitter rivals El Merreikh in the championship race. Sadomba struck his seventh goal in nine league matches for Al Hilal as he helped the Khartoum outfit to a 2-0 win over Al Ahli Khartoum at the Omdurman on Sunday night.With closest rivals and old enemies Merreikh having lost 0-1 at home to Al Khartoum the previous day, it was up to Al Hilal to win their assignment the following day to increase their lead at the top.
Sadomba ensured there would be a night of partying for the blue half of the Sudanese capital when he thrust Al Hilal into a 30th minute lead with a tap in off some combination work with Mudestir Karica.
The log leaders then sealed their important win a minute from time when Nazer Hamed grabbed the second.
Al Hilal, who have 69 points from 27 games, now lead Merreikh by four points, but Sadomba’s side have played one game less than their bitter rivals.
More importantly, for Sadomba, his first half strike in Sunday night’s game was his seventh goal in nine games and his return to Al Hilal has given the club and their legion of fans reason to believe that they can win the championship title again.
Al Hilal, Sudan’s most successful club with 25 league titles in the 45-year history of the championship, were last crowned champions in 2014.
And Sadomba’s home coming show has brought about renewed confidence that the glory days could yet be back with some reminiscing to an era when the club, then under the tutelage of experienced tactician Milutin “Micho’’ Sredojevi, ruled the roost in ruthless fashion.
