ROBSON Chinhoi of Mutare will be out to defend his Hwange Open golf title at the annual tournament which is scheduled to run from October 12-14 at Hwange Golf Club.
The event will see several top professionals taking part and last year it was held under the Zambezi Tour and is one of the few left on the professional calendar with the season coming to an end.
Last year the tournament was won by Chinhoi who managed his first ever professional tournament victory and will be expected to defend it.
The 27-year-old local golfing sensation, who was making his third appearance at this annual tournament, relegated Harare-based golfer Trynos Muradzikwa into the second position with a five under par score.
Another professional golfer Julius Kalimazeni was third with a one-under par score and is hopeful that he will do even better this time around.
Kamalizeni, who got a huge boost from his sponsors Dandemutande who are a premier internet service provider, believes with their support he is going to do well this time around.
“I am enjoying my game, especially after I came out third last year and this time I am looking forward to an improved performance.
“I am very happy for Dandemutande who are helping me a lot in as much as to fulfil all the tournaments which are lined up.
“My game has been improving of late and after my improved performance, their coming on board by sponsoring my golf kit, T-shirts and accommodation, I feel I need to make them happy,” said Kamalizeni.
Hwange Colliery Company are the sponsors of the annual event which will see over 150 professional and amateur golfers taking part.
Ryan Cairns, who is playing well on the Sunshine Tour, remains the one to beat with the likes of Ben Follet-Smith, Brian Gondo, Nyasha Muyambo, Ignatius Mketeteke and Tongo Charamba also likely to feature prominently.
