CHINHOYI COUNCIL CHAMBER TURNS INTO A BOXING ARENA

HAS the Chinhoyi Municipality Council chamber turned into a boxing ring?

Mayor Owen Charuza and Councillor Voster Mashevedzanwa had an altercation in the chamber amid a dispute over the issue of a break-in at the Council offices at the weekend.

Mashevedzanwa told H- Metro:

“I have nothing personal with him and I don’t know his issues.

“I challenge him on the decisions he makes.

“He is using divide and rule tactics among Councillors when it comes to Council trips.

“Charuza ejected me from the chamber some time ago when we deliberated over the selection of the Acting Town Clerk.”

Efforts to get a comment from Charuza were fruitless, as he did not pick up his calls.

Some Councillors nearly fought in the chamber after a dispute over residential stands.

A Councillor, who did not want to be identified, told H-Metro that Charuza and Mashevedzanwa have got serious personal differences.

“Their differences are personal. These two have a problem and, at the end of the day, we just leave the two and we walk out of the chamber,” he said.

This has not gone down well with residents.

Mathew Gore said:

“The councillors were elected to discuss and make decisions on local policies, budgets and things that impact the community.

“Charuza and Mashevedzanwa must respect the chamber.

“If they want to fight, they can engage the Boxing Control Board.”

Another resident, Emmaculate Chifamba, of Rusununguko, said the Councillors must focus on how conflicts can be addressed and resolved.
