ZIMBABWE’S traditional music scene is set to welcome a new talent when Peripatetic Vimbiso Vambe launches her debut album “Marimuka” today.
With its unique blend of mbira, marimba, drums and hosho, “Marimuka” promises to take listeners on a musical journey through Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage.
The mbira player (33), who hails from Murehwa, began working on her album in 2020 but faced financial challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite these setbacks, she persevered and the album is finally set to be launched on National FM today.
“I was inspired by our day-to-day lives, the rich cultural background and love since I was a child and I’m excited to finally share my music with the world,” Vimbiso said.
The album has six tracks, including ‘Murewa’, ‘Marimuka’ and ‘Mukoma Eriya.’
“Most songs are based on love issues which happen in our communities.
“Sometimes when you get into a relationship, it’s not what you expect.
“So, on this album, I tried to show different scenarios and get the audience to relate with their own situation.”
Vimbiso collaborated with her father, Toga S Vambe, and worked with producer Badge Tapembera of Angel Voice Studios.
She said she is inspired by the likes of legendary musician Thomas Mapfumo and Jah Prayzah.
