Chipanga unveils own ‘commandments’

CONTROVERSIAL musician, prophet and MAPIPI church leader Hosiah Chipanga has unveiled his own “commandments” which he claimed the Holy Spirit gave to the people of Zimbabwe through him in 1981.
The 62-year-old Doro Rakanaka hit-maker said he initially chronicled the “commandments” in his first single, Gumi Remitemo in 1981 two years after he was released from jail in Mozambique.  And just like Moses who received the commandments at Mount Sinai as the Lord had commanded him, Chipanga claimed to have received a set of “commandments” on September 13, 1977 at Sheeba Sawmill near Penhalonga.

“I composed a single Gumi Remitemo after I conversed with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit actually descended on me. It was a guideline for all people particularly leaders. The Holy Spirit told me to deliver them to people. I could not resist it. I had no capability to control my mind. Just when I was about to start my mission of preaching, I decided to join the liberation war and I went to Mozambique where I got arrested at gunpoint by the Frelimo.

“I was released in 1979. I came back to Zimbabwe after being given refugee status. But I had to continue with my mission. I had to let people know about the ‘commandments’. The late James Chikerema left with my book in which I had written the original ‘commandments’. But I cannot keep quiet especially now when people need guidelines more than ever,” Chipanga said. He said the “commandments” were somehow similar to those that the biblical Moses received.  The talented lyricist posted six of the “commandments” on his church MAPIPI’s Facebook page last Friday saying it was “for the benefit of people”.
