9am to 4pm — will see various children from the Chipawo centres in Harare, Norton, Chitungwiza, Bindura and Domboshava showcasing the skills they learnt in various art disciplines throughout the year.
These include music, dance, theatre and poetry, among others.
Chipo Basopo of Chipawo said the end of year concert accorded children a platform to exhibit the arts skills they learnt. “This is the time when children get to showcase what they have been doing throughout the year and what they are capable of doing. All children from all the centres will come to showcase their brilliant works to their guests, family and friends,” she said.
While the first end of year party was held on Saturday (July 21) in Bindura, it is this Saturday’s affair that promises fireworks since children from various schools in different places will also be participating.
“All Chipawo centres will be present and these include Mufakose High 1, Roosevelt Girls’ High, St Michael’s in Mbare, Tynwald Centre, Marlborough, Zengeza 4 and Farai in Chitungwiza among others.
“The Chipawo end of year concert is not just a concert but an award presentation ceremony for centres that have completed the Chipawo syllabus and also for the best students at the centres,” Basopo said.
She said the awards will be in the areas of Chipawo Child of the Year, Centre of the Year and Layiti Centre of the Year while children who have been with Chipawo for one or more years will also be awarded with certificates. Since its inception in 1989, Chipawo has produced many children who have proceeded to be professional artistes.
Some of them have gone on international tours where they have lifted the Zimbabwean flag high with their scintillating performances.
