Chipawo launches centre in Byo

CHILDREN’s Performing Arts Workshop (Chipawo) will today launch a centre in Bulawayo in pursuit of fulfilling its purpose of exposing children to arts and culture.The launch slated for Bulawayo Theatre will see children from Bulawayo receiving various presentations from performers from the Harare junior theatre for Chipawo. Chipawo which has been working with children and young people for over 25 years will train and expose children from Bulawayo to national and international festivals, cultural exchange and television programmes.

Cement Primary School and Njube Primary School are expected to perform at the launch as they have been chosen as the first schools to be affiliates of Chipawo in the city.

Chipawo manager Chipo Basopo said the day would mark the beginning of an exciting journey for the city of Bulawayo.

“Since Chipawo is all over the world, we found it important to set up a centre in Bulawayo – the second largest city in the country,” she said.

The Bulawayo launch comes at a time the children’s organisation is celebrating its 25 years of existence with the commemorations set for September.

Established in 1989, Chipawo has been working with children and young people being involved through international festivals and exchange programmes. Chipawo trains children on dance, drama/theatre, music and media performances.
