Several players turned out for the trials, which are aiming to recruit players from 18-22 years.
Rhinos coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera said he was impressed with the turn out on the first day and remained hopeful they will manage to reach their set goals.
“The trial and pre-season started on a high note and there were a lot of young players who came for the trials.
“We are looking forward to adding four or five players to our team which won promotion to the top flight last year. The players showed a lot of commitment as most of them were punctual and that saw us finish on time.
“The players turned out in their numbers but I will give everyone a chance to take part and assess them.
“We are looking to a good season, as we will start the preparations,” Saruchera said.
Chipembere who have over the years relied on their aging layers such as Lazarus Muhoni, Brighton Chandisaita and Britto Gwere have decided to target younger players to try and add impetus to their machine.
Saruchera and his assistant Arthur Tutani will now be hoping that the fish at least three gems from the numerous number of players that are reporting for training. Competition in the Premiership has continued to be tough despite the league losing of its glamourous players like Washington Arubi Takesure Chinyama and Denver Mukamba to the big spending leagues such as the Absa Premiership.
