Chipfumo makes progress with 8th album

PROGRESS Chipfumo’s camp reckons the Sounds of Motherland boss has nailed it on his eighth album titled, “Hope”.

Chipfumo’s forthcoming project, which is set to end the crooner’s seven-year-old album drought, will be officially launched on Friday at Steak House Pub & Grill in Waterfalls, Harare.

He last recorded “Progress Check” in 2017.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Chipfumo’s manager, Junior Luke, assured fans the album was worth the wait.

“We are launching this album on Friday as was advertised in the press and our social media platforms.

“The album will carry eight songs and one of them featuring Dorcas Moyo (Rudo Chii?) has since been released.

“We expect it to carry eight songs and right now Progress is busy with the producers finalising the track list. On this album, we worked with Maselo, Knowledge Nkoma, Kunashe Studios and Ghost from Harare,” he said.

Some of the tracks to look forward to including “Piro”, “Rugare”, “Ndakanga Ndirimo”, “Ndovada Sei” and “Vana Vangu”.

Junior, who has been running Chipfumo’s affair for some time, said the album was laden with a message of hope, having faith in God, and unity.

“Chipfumo has always been a social commentator whose strength lies in tackling social issues, which affect us.

“On this album, we are simply encouraging each other to work hard despite the challenges we face in our life.

“As it stands, life has its ups and downs that we want to tackle and make the world a better place to live in.”

His launch, which will certainly culminate into a big musical extravaganza, will be graced by other top musicians.

These include Kireni Zulu, Suluman Chimbetu, Sasha Amadhube and Satisfaction.

Dorcas Moyo, who has collaborated with Chipfumo, hailed the Sounds of Motherland frontman for his creativity.

“I will be attending the album launch on Friday as a way of supporting my brother. I learnt a lot from working with him in the studio.

“Chipfumo is an amazing musician who is not only talented, but very humble. I will certainly be there in Harare to grace the album launch,” she said.

Fellow musician, Zulu,who has been getting close to Chipfumo said:

“I always support other artistes who are launching their albums as a sign of unity. I always make myself available and it really promises to be a successful launch.

“We should celebrate each other as artistes because there is more in collaborations.”

Suluman, who has worked with Chipfumo wished his counterpart the best.

“Chipfumo is family and we always work together as well as support each other,” he said.

Chipfumo, a tried and tested lyricist and performer, has been in the game for over 25 years.

He has also been credited for uplifting other upcoming musicians who need his expertise.

Besides some of his off-stage antics, Chipfumo is a talented musician who still has the mojo to maintain his dominance in showbiz.

Formerly with Hohodza Hot Band, Chipfumo has been consistent since the turn of the new millennium.

He has produced several songs which chronicles his life as an orphan as well as giving hope to the downtrodden and those in despair.

Besides “Hope”, Chipfumo boasts of a rich catalogue of albums comprising ‘Progress Report” released in 2000, “Let Them Know” (2002), “Ndinovatenda Nei” (2004), “Tsiurika” (2007), “Hold My Hand” (2013) and “Progress Report” in 2017.
