Chipfumo to headline Dhewa memorial

Macheso and the young Igwe himself, Peter Moyo, who will ignite a revelling mood in this Midlands town of Kwekwe.
Tongai died last year on October 15, after a long battle with cancer.
Chipfumo, whose stock has been rising over the last few months, was equally ecstatic about the task, saying he had a good relationship with Tongai.
“Tongai was like a brother to me and to perform at his memorial will be an honour.
“We had good relations with the musician, and whenever we were performing together he would phone me a day before saying babamunini, magadzirira here kuti tivabvurire mumhanzi mangwana,” Chipfumo said.
Chipfumo added that all the musicians would be doing it in solidarity with Peter.
“Mukoma Tongai was a man of integrity who always aspired to see musicians as one unified group,” he said.
Chipfumo is one of the finest Zimbabwe musicians who boasts excellent guitar skills and socially conscious lyrics.
From the time he released his debut album, “Progress Report”, after leaving the Portia Gwanzura-led Hohodza Band, he has continued to rise steadily.
Tafadzwa Maridadi, who is jointly organising the show with Peter, said the inclusion of Chipfumo was expected to attract a divergent crowd that was eagerly awaiting the young man’s performance.
“I am glad that we have been able to attract prominent artistes like Macheso and Chipfumo who are have made names for themselves in the sector.
“Their inclusion in the Dhewa memorial is expected to generate interest and attract a huge crowd in support of the late musician’s gig,” he said.
