TWO Chipinge brothers are on the run after fatally assaulting their 75-year-old neighbour as they accused him of wizardry.
The suspects, Calisto (34) and Nhamo Magodga (39) disappeared from the scene after fatally assaulting Mr Joshua Nyambi of Gaziri Village in Chief Garahwa’s area.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident which happened on February 16.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said the two brothers had a misunderstanding with Mr Nyambi of the same village.
“On the fateful day, the two accused persons who are still at large confronted Mr Nyambi at his homestead. Mr Nyambi was in the company of his wife, Ms Lilian Siwela. The two brothers accused Mr Nyambi of causing the death of their sister last month. They assaulted him with sticks and open hands,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
He said Mr Nyambi tried to escape and seek refuge at his neighbour’s homestead, but the brothers followed him and dragged him to a footpath where they continued assaulting him.
“They left Mr Nyambi unconscious and bleeding profusely. A passerby, Mr Khumbula Chipadza saw Mr Nyambi’s body the following day and reported the matter at Chisumbanje Police Station. The brothers disappeared from the scene after the incident and we are appealing to anyone with information leading to their arrest to contact their nearest police station,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
