A 42-year-old Chipinge man was dragged to court for allegedly attempting to murder a man who was having an affair with his girlfriend.
Razane Muyambo of Green Valley, Chipinge in Manicaland province appeared before Chipinge magistrates’ court charged with attempting to murder Robert Mtisi by striking him with a machete several times after he discovered he was romantically involved with his girlfriend, Tafadzwa Makuyana.
Muyambo was remanded in custody to 13 February.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPAZ) the incident occurred on Tuesday when Muyambo went to see his girlfriend and upon arrival about two hours later Mtisi also arrived at the scene.
“A confrontation ensued between the accused and the complainant, escalating into a physical altercation. During the fight, the complainant picked up stones and struck the accused. In retaliation, the accused grabbed a machete and struck the complainant three times on the head, causing severe injuries,” the NPAZ said.
Mtisi collapsed due to the injuries and Makuyana screamed for help prompting Muyambo to flee from the scene leaving the injured Mtisi lying in a pool of blood.
