A 25-year-old Chipinge man, Rabson Mureki, has been sentenced to eight months in prison for assaulting a 43-year-old man over a US$1 dispute.

Mureki was convicted by the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court for the assault, which occurred on May 4, 2025.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, Mureki accused the victim of stealing his US$1 note, leading to a physical altercation.

“The complainant denied the allegations, and this did not go well with the offender, who took an unknown sharp object and stabbed the complainant on the upper right thigh. The complainant sustained a deep cut wound,” reads the statement.

He was initially sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, with four months suspended, resulting in an effective sentence of eight months.
