A 26-year-old man was attacked and killed by a mob, a few minutes after he had allegedly raped and robbed a woman of US$23 and R40 in Triangle, Chiredzi on Tuesday.
The deceased, Mncedisi Stan Moyo, was accused of raping and robbing a 39-year-old woman.
Police have since arrested eight suspects in connection with the case.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The ZRP confirms the arrest of eight suspects who were part of a mob who assaulted Mncedisi Stan Moyo aged 26 indiscriminately with wooden sticks all over the body while the victim was hanging from poles.
“Moyo had allegedly raped and robbed a victim aged 39 of US$23 and R40 at Village 4D Mahanyele in Triangle on August 27, 2024, and he fled from the scene before he was apprehended by the suspects,” he said.
“After the assault, the suspect dumped the victim at Zvemombe Business Centre, Triangle where he subsequently died. Investigations are in progress.”
